Dining Room to Play Room
There comes a time, many times actually, in every parent's life where you have to make sacrifices for your children. Our dining room is the most recent victim.
I remember when buying our house 4 years ago being so excited to finally have a formal dining room. I'd be able to display my china and crystal! We found the perfect dining room set; table, seating for 6, and matching china cabinet. Here we are 4 years later, with a dining room looking exactly like when we fist moved in...empty.
This is the future location of Landon and Carter's play room. Toys have taken over the house, mostly train tracks, Matchbox cars, and Legos. Oh, the Legos!
I have great ideas for this room, including an awesome light fixture, funky picture frame/cork board art displays, chalkboard paint, a drop-leaf table for Lego building and floating shelves to display the final product, and tons of cubicle storage space.
Stay tuned to watch this room come to fruition.

Single Mom
I am a single mom starting today through next Saturday. Christopher will be in San Diego for work and I'll be holding down the fort on my own. I'm mostly nervous about dropping the boys off at school/daycare in two separate spots and picking them both up before 6:00, all while getting to work on time and getting my 8 hours in each day. How do single parents do it?
Prayers, good thoughts, Buddha belly rubs are appreciated.

A Good Pal
I've talked about what a good pal our dog, Hokie, is to the boys. He sleeps in the bed with Landon every night until Landon falls asleep. He never jumps down until Landon is fast asleep, no matter how long that takes. I noticed this weekend that he naps with Carter. When Carter is down for a nap, you can find Hokie laying on the floor next to Carter's crib during his entire nap.
What a sweet boy!

Rocker
I typically keep Landon's hair buzzed but have been lazy lately and haven't cut it (I have cleaned up the back and around his ears). But with longer hair, I am able to spike it. He LOVES for me to fix his hair. This child uses waaaayyyy more product in his hair than I do at any given time. I tried out a Mohawk today; he was stoked!

Snow Day!
As Landon fell asleep on Sunday night, the rain turned over to sleet and snow. When he woke up yesterday morning, I heard his blinds fly up. Then the sound of feet running furiously into my bedroom. "Mommy! There's snow everywhere. It's all over the grass and Daddy's truck! I can make snow angels and a snow man."
Truth be told, it was a tiny dusting but it lit up his morning.
His school was closed yesterday and today, Christopher's work was closed yesterday for President's Day, and Carter's daycare was delayed. So the boys had some fun playing in the snow yesterday morning.
*And yes, Landon is sporting an 80s girls snowsuit!

Cozy Corner
While Landon and I stepped out of the house this past weekend for a few hours, Carter and Daddy had some alone time. The boys had made a tent earlier in the day in Carter's room and Carter wanted to play in it. After Christopher finished what he was doing (noticing that things had gotten awfully quiet), he went to check on Carter. At first he couldn't find him. Can you spot Carter?
Then he spotted him in the corner...asleep!

Valentines
Carter took your normal Toy Story valentine with a tattoo to his classmates on Valentine's Day. Easy button. Done.
I went the homemade route with Landon this year. It was partly because I saw it in my Family Fun magazine and was thinking I could handle this craft, partly because Landon thought it was awesome, partly because I felt like I had to step it up for Kindergarten, and partly because I wanted to show those SAHMs that come have lunch and story time with the kids in his class that I am a kick-butt, valentine-making mom too even though I work outside of the home!
I think they turned out awesome!

Reading Just Like Brother
First and foremost, be warned...you may die from cuteness overload. Both boys are bookworms - they are always looking at books, sleep with multiple books in their beds, and rack up about 60 books on the library card at any given time. Carter Bear has recently started to "read" books - this boy has an amazing memory. Enjoy the cuteness!

Lightdog
I have the sweetest dog on the planet. We rescued sweet Hokie 9 years ago. He really is man's (and woman's) best friend and a good pal to the boys too.
Every night, he lays in bed with Landon while he falls asleep. As soon as Landon is asleep, Hokie jumps down and comes to snuggle with me on the couch. It doesn't matter how long it takes Landon to fall asleep, 5 minutes or 2 hours, Hokie doesn't budge until the heavy breathing begins.
The other night, he never came down. I called and called his name so I could let him out to potty before we all went to bed. He didn't come. We went looking around the house for him; me downstairs and Christopher upstairs (he has been known to slip out of an open door without us knowing it; if he does this, he waits outside of the back door until we let him in). I heard Christopher say, "Oh my goodness!" Then he walks to the top of the steps, holding Hokie in his arms.
Apparently Landon thought it would be cool to clip a flashlight to the poor dog's collar and he was too petrified to move!
