A Webelo & A Tiger

It's the end of the Cub Scout year and during the end-of-year ceremony, the boys advance to the next level. They get their new colors (hat, neckerchief, and neckerchief slide).  Landon is now a Webelo I (Webelo = We'll be loyal Scouts). And? And! Carter is FINALLY a Cub Scout. He has been attending Scout meetings and events for the past 3 years with Landon. He knows the Scout sign, oath, and salute. He's looked at every Scouting book cover to cover numerous times. He has been anxiously awaiting when he could join (as a rising 1st grader). He received his Tiger colors and is so excited (although you can't really tell from the picture here...he said he had to be serious. LOL).

 

Human Hungry Hungry Hippos

The boys played Human Hungry Hungry Hippos at Scouts and it was too awesome not to share. The boys split into 4 teams and each group took a corner of the arena. Tennis balls were released into the middle of the arena. As you can see in the pictures below, a rope was tied onto a creeper and the "hippo" laid on the creeper with a bucket in his hands. His teammates would push him out into the arena, he'd capture as many balls as possible under his bucket, then get pulled back by his teammates (by the rope). An adult would keep tally of how many balls he had captured, then would push the balls back into the arena. Repeat for 2 minutes. Then another boy had a turn for 2 minutes. After all boys had a turn, scores were tallied.

The kids had a blast!!!
