Free Maid Service

We ate couscous tonight and Carter made a M.E.S.S.!!! About half of what he "ate" ended up on my floor. Landon wanted to help me clean so I gave him my little stick vacuum and told him to go for it. He spent about 15 minutes making sure he vacuumed up every single tiny piece of couscous. When he was done he said "That was fun! Can I vacuum every night?". My delighted response..."Why yes you can!".

WWJD?

I told Landon he could have fruit snacks after supper because I "thought" he had eaten a good supper. It looked like his plate was almost clean. Then his Daddy informed me that he didn't have much on his plate to start with so I told Landon he had to ask Daddy if he could have fruit snacks. Our conversation went a little like this:

L: Well, I'm not going to tell Daddy that I am getting fruit snacks.
K: That's not very honest.
L: I don't know what that word means???
K: It means that you're not telling the truth.
Silence
K: What would God want you to do?
Pause
L: He would want me to eat fruit snacks!!!

Landon's 1st Flag Football Game

Landon played his first flag football game this past Saturday. O.M.G. ya'll, it was total cuteness.

I have to say that I was VERY proud of him. I expected him to clutch onto my leg and whine that he didn't want to leave me. But my big boy ran over to his coaches and practiced for an hour, and played a game for an hour. He did great following their instructions.

We started the morning with a little drama trying to fit his mouthguard. Seriously - my 4 year old was required to wear a mouthguard. To fit it properly, you have to heat it up in boiling water, put it in and bite down, then cool it off to set it. Well Landon wasn't too keen on this thing at first. He didn't want to put it in while it was hot and he kept gagging. So I cut some (more like way too much) off the back so it wouldn't gag him and we finally got it fitted properly. We had him sit on the couch a while to get used to having it in, and he never thought twice about it again.

He did manage to pull a flag (off of one of his teammates), snap the ball once, and even play Running Back (the one that catches the ball and tries to run it down the field for a TD). Well, Landon is THE SMALLEST kid on his team...and they put the BIGGEST kid from the other team on him when he was RB. Landon just looked at this big kid coming towards him, stopped and stood there...so needless to say, his flag wasn't a hard one to pull. I also enjoyed the look on his face when we told him that he could push back on the kid that was trying to block him. Really, I can push?!?! Note to self: make sure he understands the difference between pushing in football and pushing in other circumstances.

I think he had a GREAT first day playing an organized sport. I am impressed with the patience of his coaches and the professionalism and attitude of the league (check out i9 Sports here). I can't wait to see Landon's growth over the next 8 weeks.

*I will post his schedule & info soon in case anyone wants to come out to see him play (we have next week off for Labor Day).

Day on the Farm

Last Sunday, I took Landon and Carter to VA to enjoy a day on the farm at my parents'.

Disclaimer: Landon insisted on wearing his Spiderman outfit all day...even outside in the 90 degree weather.

Landon helped Papa move bales of tobacco under the shed. He loves his John Deeres!

All of their cousins (Elizabeth, Gracie, Adam & Jeter) came over and we all had a great day together.

The next 3 pictures of Carter and Jeter trip me out...they look like mirror images of each other!

It's so good to be home...

Geocacheing in Lake Crabtree Park

While at the park last Saturday, we also got in a little geocacheing (read about geocacheing and our first round here). We located a TINY microcontainer under a bench in a gazebo. All that was inside of this one was a mini log.

Picnic at the Park

The boys & I enjoyed a picnic lunch at the park last Saturday...& even made a new friend (Mr. Squirrel)! Carter provided smiles with his pretzel silliness.

The Bagley Plague

We've had the plague roll through the Bagley household.

I'm recovering from a sinus infection, with the aid of good drugs. Christopher and Landon both had a short round of a cold, but are feeling better.

Carter has had a runny nose and cough the past few days, but he also just cut a tooth so I figured that all came as a package deal. Daycare called yesterday to say that he woke up from his nap with his eye completely crusted shut. So I took him to the doctor, got the good ol diagnosis of bacterial pink eye (which is caused by a cold) and got some drops. I also talked with the doctor about a round of coughing Carter had at 4am the night before - I seriously thought there was a dog or a seal in the house...he was literally barking. The doctor said that the croup was going around and it would be safe to give him a 1-dose round of oral steroid to knock it out before it gets bad.

*warning: this next paragraph may be
TMI for some of you*

Then my poor Landon. He has been screaming for 2 days trying to poop. There is a cluster of hard balls of poop at his hiney that is too big to come out. And he SCREAMS trying to go. The doctor recommended a glycerin suppository to help lubricate it. I picked that up at the local drug store last night. I think Christopher's exact words to me were "Yeah, have fun with that". After talking Landon into letting me do it, I did the deed (simultaneously earning a MOM badge) and he immediately said "I've got to go poop". He sat down and pooped screaming for joy that it didn't hurt! Glycerin suppository...I HEART you!!!

Bagley Gathering at the Creek

Every year the Bagley family gets together at Hounds Creek on the family property. About 20 of us gather, eat and celebrate each other. We also enjoy fishing and swimming in the creek.

Mike added a rope swing down at the creek this year for a little extra fun.

Carter & Grandpa had a deep conversation about trees.

Landon loved playing in the creek.

And Carter loved marshmallows. mmmmmmmmm

Olive dipped her feet in the creek for the first time.

Carolina Railhawks Soccer Game

We went to a Carolina Railhawks soccer game for Christopher's birthday last Wednesday. Ya'll, it was hot. It was about 100 that day with a heat index of 116. The minute we sat down, our shirts were drenched. But we enjoyed ourselves even though the Railhawks took a loss that night.

Carter pooped out about halfway through the first half...

Growing Up

A few of our latest milestones:

Carter
  • Tooth #3 FINALLY popped all the way through at the beginning of the week (the left one of the top two middle). This thing has been trying to come through for months.
  • In the past few weeks, he has started to pull up on everything. Sometimes he can even let go for a few seconds!
  • He has added a few more words to his vocab: tree, more & quack quack (sounds like kak kak).
  • He has learned to climb stairs (not such a good milestone considering he likes to try to climb back down head-first).

Landon

  • He is signed up for his first organized sport, flag football. He starts on August 28th.
  • He says "yellow" instead of "lellow" - this was a big one for me.
  • He has graduated from wanting to watch shows like Mickey Mouse and Handy Manny to big-boy shows like Batman!

Pure Sweetness

What A Mess!

Carter finds his way all over the house, and into things that he shouldn't be into.

my pantry...

the wipes...

But look at that face! How can you get upset?!?!

The Joneses Go To Marbles

The Jones family went to Marbles last Friday for a day of fun - me, Landon, Carter, Nannie, Angela (my sister), Elizabeth, Gracie, Beth (my SIL), Adam & Jeter. The kids had a BLAST and I love seeing the cousins together.

My precious boys

The kids enjoyed grocery shopping, fishing, sorting mail, racing cars they put together (poor EJ...she had a hard time like her Aunt Kakee!), playing on a pirate ship, making & delivering pizza, etc. etc. etc.

Carter & Jeter enjoyed riding around in the double stroller. Carter would yell back to Jeter and Jeter would kick back. We finally let them loose to crawl around, and Jeter decided to crawl on top of Carter and just lay there... Carter Bear didn't like that too much.

Special delivery!
